The
Circular Ruins
Inspired by Borges' story "The Circular Ruins". Executed using drypoint technique, with letterpress text featuring colourful phrases on one side and monochromatic text on the reverse.
The accordion-fold format embodies the "circular" concept, allowing reading commencement from any point without a true beginning or end. The die-cut suspended design constructs a standalone exhibition space for the book.

The Beginning

The stranger stretched himself out beneath the pedestal.
He was awakened by the sun high overhead.
He wasnot astonished to find that his wounds had healed;
he closed his pallid eyes and slept,
not through weakness of flesh but through determination of will.

During my MA studies, I transformed my creative habits.
Perpetually captivated by line expressions in intaglio printmaking, I found drypoint to be the most straightforward and immediate yet most uncontrollable medium.
I ceased viewing deviant lines as ‘mistakes’-they possess their own consciousness, autonomous expressions of freedom. Embracing the mindset of a technique-free child, I let my hand guide the organic growth of imagery.
